Barnsley Council is establishing a new way that we work with private landlords to improve the working relationship and quality of housing within the Private Rented Sector (PRS).
Barnsley Landlord Accreditation Scheme is a voluntary scheme that recognises good landlords within the borough. Our aim is to improve physical standards, good rental practices and quality of property management within the Private Rented Sector. This will be accomplished through encouragement and support but also working with and recognising landlords who are willing to attain and adhere to good property standards.
Barnsley Standards have been developed along with a star rating system to encourage greater tenant choice and raise living standards. Stars are awarded to landlords who comply with the law and who rent out properties above the minimum statutory standards in conjunction with Barnsley Standards. The system allows landlords to advertise their properties so tenants can choose a property and landlord knowing they have been checked and approved by the council. Our accredited landlords will be readily available for public reference unless stipulated on the application form.
Our mission is to provide tenants and landlords a central point to allow great landlords and tenants to come together and ensure a high standard of private sector housing in Barnsley. The council's Safer Neighbourhoods Service are the first point of contact for information and advice about the scheme. The team can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org
