Barnsley RentSmart
Barnsley Council is establishing a new way of working with private landlords to improve both the working relationship and the quality of housing offered within the Private Rented Sector (PRS).
The Rentsmart Landlord Accreditation Scheme is a voluntary scheme that recognises good landlords within the borough. Our aim is to improve physical standards, establish good rental practices, and generally improve the quality of property management within the Private Rented Sector. We aim to do this through encouraging, supporting, and recognising landlords who attain and adhere to high levels of property standards.
Barnsley Standards have been developed along with a star rating system to promote greater tenant choice and raise living standards. Stars are awarded to landlords who offer properties that exceed the minimum statutory standards and legal requirements. The system allows tenants to choose a property knowing that both the accommodation and the landlord have been checked and approved by the council. Our accredited landlords will be readily available for public reference unless stipulated on the application form.
Our mission is to offer great tenants and landlords a way to come together to ensure a high standard of private sector housing in Barnsley.
