As a tenant you also have a responsibility to behave in a certain way, this code of conduct advises you of your responsibilities as a tenant.
- General conduct
- You have read and understand the tenancy agreement
- You will abide by the terms and condition in the tenancy agreement
- You will conduct your relationship with your landlord, managing agent or their contractors in a courtesy manner
- You will behave in a ‘tenant like manner’ and don’t cause damage to the property
- You will respond to your landlord or managing agent in a timely manner
- Commencement of a tenancy
- You will provide any references to your landlord or managing agent as per their request
- You will register with the relevant utility companies and Barnsley Council’s council tax department, unless stated otherwise
- You will participate with the check-in inventory and agree or raise any discrepancies before signing a copy
- During a tenancy
- You will behave in a reasonable manner and not to cause a nuisance to your neighbours
- You will allow the landlord or managing agent to discharge their duties
- You will always pay your full rent when it is due
- You will adhere to guidance set by your landlord or managing agents in relation to anti-social behaviour
- You will take reasonable care of the property and repair any damage caused by you or your guests
- You will report any repairs immediately to your landlord or managing agent to prevent any further issues
- You will test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms regularly
- You will ensure that the property is always secure when not in the property
- You will dispose of waste and recycling correctly and report any issues to your landlord or managing agent or the Council
- At the end of a tenancy
- Provide the correct notice period to your landlord
- Leave the property in a good clean condition
- Settle all utility bills
- Return all keys to the landlord or managing agent
